This is the first run of this type of train in China. The Jakarta-Bandung high-speed Railway (JAKarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway) is a high-speed Railway connecting the Greater Jakarta metropolitan area of the Republic of Indonesia with West Java province. It is the first high-speed Railway in Southeast Asia and will be operational in June 2023. The high-speed railway comprehensive inspection train, as an essential and important technical equipment to ensure the safety of high-speed railway line operation, also travels at 350 kilometers per hour. It is used to detect train track condition, measure current and overhead power, test or check communication and signal network and even wheel to track dynamics, etc. It will play a key role in the joint commissioning and trial of jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway and infrastructure maintenance. The Jakarta-Bandung high-speed Railway is a link between China's Belt and Road Initiative and Indonesia's Ocean Fulcrum Strategy. It is a landmark project of practical cooperation between China and Indonesia and also a national strategic project of Indonesia. It connects the capital Jakarta and the fourth largest city Bandung with a length of 142 kilometers and a maximum design speed of 350 kilometers. Ini merupakan hasil pengembangan tipe CRH380A oleh CRRC Qingdao Sifang.

Menurut spesifikasi di atas kertas, kereta cepat CR400AF memiliki lebar 3,36 m dan tinggi 4,05 m dengan panjang kepala kereta 27,2 m dan intermediate kereta 25 m. Selain lebih andal, CR400AF juga memiliki masa penggunaan lebih lama hingga lebih dari 30 tahun (sejak tahun produksi) serta biaya perawatan yang lebih rendah. Kereta cepat CR400AF juga sudah didesain untuk beroperasi di empat iklim, salah satunya iklim tropis dengan konsisi suhu dan kelembaban tinggi seperti di Indonesia.

Setiap rangkaian CR400AF dilengkapi dua Lightning Arrester untuk meningkatkan keamanan terhadap sambaran petir terutama di sisi peralatan tegangan tinggi. Selain mampu beroperasi di iklim tropis dan cuaca ekstrim, CR400AF juga dipastikan mampu menghadapi kondisi geografis lintasan Jakarta-Bandung yang cenderung menanjak. Satu rangkaian kereta cepat ini memiliki 8 gerbong dengan komposisi empat gerbong bermotor dan empat gerbong tanpa motor.

Menurut KCIC, kereta CR400AF memiliki kecepatan desain hingga 420km/jam dan kecepatan operasional 350 km/jam. Kereta cepat ini punya cabin noise yang lebih rendah sehingga mampu meredam getaran dan suara di dalam kereta dengan lebih optimal, sehingga tetap nyaman. Kereta cepat CR400AF dilengkapi dengan dua emergency brake. Yang pertama disebut Emergency Brake EB yang bekerja berdasarkan perintah driver controller, fasilitas emergency brake penumpang dan kontrol kewaspadaan masinis. Emergency brake kedua disebut Emergency Brake UB yang akan aktif berdasarkan fungsi Automatic Train Protection (ATP), pendeteksi jarak antar kereta dan pada saat power kereta dalam kondisi off atau tidak bekerja.

Berkat kecepatan tinggi yang bisa dicapainya, CR400AF Kereta Cepat Indonesia akan menempuh jarak 142,3 km Jakarta-Bandung hanya dalam waktu 36 menit untuk perjalanan langsung. Atau jika dengan kondisi perjalanan berhenti di setiap stasiun, hanya butuh waktu 46 menit dari Jakarta sampai Bandung. Sebagai informasi, disepanjang trase Kereta Cepat Jakarta - Bandung akan terdapat empat stasiun pemberhentian yakni di Halim, Karawang, Walini dan Tegalluar.
