Kongo - Kongo seharusnya menjadi negara kaya raya karena tambang kobaltnya. Namun yang terjadi justru sebaliknya.

Pandangan umum tentang penambang yang bekerja di tambang artisanal Shabara dekat Kolwezi, Kongo, Rabu, (12/10/2022). Kongo terkenal dengan tambang kobaltnya yang mendunia. Kobalt sendiri merupakan bahan penting pembuatan baterai dan ponsel.

Namun sayang, ada ironi di balik tambang tersebut. Menukil situs resmi Amnesty International, lebih dari 40.000 anak di negara Afrika itu harus memikul berkilo-kilo hasil tambang kobalt setiap hari. Pekerjaan itu dilakukan 12 jam penuh untuk upah maksimal US$2 atau sekitar Rp31.000-an (kurs Rp15.691) saja.

Salah satu tambang kobalt terkenal di Kongo adalah Shabara. Di sana sekitar 20 ribu orang bekerja tanpa henti untuk menambang kobalt.

Kongo memproduksi 72 persen stok kobalt dunia pada tahun lalu. Seharusnya, Kongo pun menjadi salah satu negara terkaya di dunia.

Sayangnya, hal itu justru tak terjadi. Peraturan yang longgar membuat banyak tambang ilegal beroperasi.
