Meksiko - Perusahaan operator kereta barang terbesar di Meksiko menghentikan 60 armada akibat kerap ditumpangi migran ilegal. Tindakan para migran itu berujung kematian.

Para migran menunggu di sepanjang jalur kereta api dengan harapan dapat menaiki kereta barang menuju utara di Huehuetoca, Meksiko, Selasa (19/9/2023).

Perusahaan operator kereta barang terbesar di Meksiko, Ferromex, mengumumkan penghentian 60 kereta barang akibat lonjakan jumlah migran yang menuju Amerika Serikat (AS) dan menggunakan kereta barang tersebut.

Tindakan ilegal para imigran itu berujung pada kematian dan cedera.

Ferromex menyatakan langkah ini diambil karena terjadi peningkatan yang mencolok dalam aliran migran dan risiko serius yang terlibat dalam naik kereta barang secara sembunyi-sembunyi.

Menurut pernyataan perusahaan, beberapa ribu migran yang tidak memiliki izin resmi menunggu di atas kereta barang atau di sekitar halaman stasiun kereta di kota-kota yang terletak di sepanjang jalur menuju perbatasan AS.

Ferromex mengatakan pihaknya saat ini menunggu tindakan yang akan diambil pihak berwenang untuk menyelesaikan situasi ini. Mereka juga memperingatkan mengenai potensi dampak terhadap rantai pasokan dan perdagangan internasional.

Menurut data dari Organisasi Internasional untuk Migrasi, lebih dari 8.200 migran telah meninggal atau menghilang di Amerika sejak 2014, dengan sebagian besar dari mereka meninggal saat mencoba mencapai Amerika Serikat melalui Meksiko.
